DevTales

THE PODCAST

Devtales is a longform interview podcast for software developers, aspiring software developers, or anyone else interested in gaining more perspective on software development as it's actually practiced. Devtales primarily focuses on the experiences and accumulated wisdom of software developers. As such, we cover coding for work, coding for pleasure, working with stakeholders, game development, front-end, back-end, web, mobile and enterprise development, startups, solving automation problems, career development, skills acquisition, personal growth, and things of that nature.

Twice a month, I talk to a passionate developer about their experiences in our profession and some principles they've learned along the way. And sometimes I'll provoke them by being just a little obtuse, because there's nothing quite so illuminating as the honesty of a thoughtful developer. The most common languages of my guests so far have been Javascript, Java/C#, and C, but the majority of our discussion is language-agnostic; we don't cover current events, deep dives into libraries, release notes, tutorials, etc.

Can I be a guest on Devtales?

Yeah, probably! My episode schedule is usually booked out a few weeks in advance, but I'm currently looking for guests in the greater Seattle with any of the following experiences:

  • Life as a new coding bootcamp/CS grad + what you're doing to try to land your first role.
  • Working as a developer for a non-tech company or industry
  • Founding a startup that folded, was acquired, or is still a going concern.
  • First-hand experiences of software development in the 80s, 90s, and the dot.com boom and bust
  • Anyone that's worked for more than one of the FAANG companies + Microsoft who's able to indulge in a little friendly compare-and-contrast of company cultures.
  • Transitioning from a non-technical to a technical role at the same company.
  • A PM, UX designer, or any other non-technical stakeholder willing to talk about what parts of working with devs they've found to be delightful/obnoxious/generally weird.
